Working with the community and McNeel, the Grasshopper – ARCHICAD Live Connection was developed to create and manipulate a BIM model in full, or in part, through Grasshopper’s visual scripting interface. Designers and Architects whose work is based on either Rhino/Grasshopper or ARCHICAD get a live, associative and bi-directional connection. Users can build versatile workflows and use the connection in multiple scenarios — on both Apple Mac OS or Microsoft Windows.
In projects where the design is primarily determined by using the Rhino-Grasshopper toolset, the GH-AC Connection is used to convert the design into a full BIM model while retaining some of the algorithmic editing capabilities. Alternatively, Rhino/Grasshopper (or other Rhino plug-in) can complement an existing BIM project with algorithmic functions at any stage of the design process. This allows the framework or reference geometry for the part designed in Grasshopper to be taken directly from ARCHICAD itself.
VisualARQ is an architectural design software which enhances Rhino by adding Flexible BIM tools such as powerful architectural object styling and dynamic documentation tools which adapt to fit your workflow.
Crystallon is an open source project for creating lattice structures using Rhino and Grasshopper3D. It was developed at FATHOM (www.studiofathom.com) by Aaron Porterfield as an alternative to commercially available software for lattice design. The obvious advantage is the ability to generate lattice structures within Rhino’s design environment without exporting to 3rd party software, but the extended advantages include the modularity and ability to combine other powerful tools available for Grasshopper3D. The decision to release it as open source was not only to share it with the community, but to further the development through its users. We realise not all users will have the same applications and needs, so we hope to receive feedback and improvements from users with unique case studies. Each tool is left as a cluster which can be opened and modified at will, in the spirit of open source. ShapeDiver is an online platform for hosting and sharing parametric models created in Grasshopper3D. When a Grasshopper model is uploaded to the ShapeDiver platform, it is turned into a web interface including the 3D model along with a simple interface containing the model parameters.
The generated online models can be shared with collaborators, embedded into external websites and connected to custom interfaces for creating completely unique web applications. Uploaded models are safely stored on secure servers and never exposed to users, who only access the interface generated from the models. Registration and use of all basic features is entirely free.
While multiple applications are possible, the main goal of ShapeDiver is to allow designers to easily create configurators for customizable products. Using the ShapeDiver plugin for Grasshopper and the web API, it is easy to connect the models with eCommerce products and to export production data ready to be manufactured.
