Dear Florin

I made my research on theCorian fabrication in Cyprus. All you need is an oven locally made. Cost about 3000 Euros and the tools of course. What is important is that the final cost of the product which will be high for a client.

When is the next workshop of Corian? I would rather prefer to attend the next one.

I booked a seat in the plane but since the workshop starts in a few days the price of the ticket is extremely high.

Possible seating scenario, before the generation of the developable strips. Kind of like thinking outside the box, but inside our 3x4x3m box. Let your imagination go wild and join us for the workshop.

Giorgos,

each participant is responsible for booking his accommodation in London. You can use www.booking.com to search for hotels.

Dear Florin

So you take care of the accomodation? How much it will cost and what about the first night before the workshop in London? Do you have any suggestions or nearby hotels to suggest?

I have already sent you an e-mail at Evolute site for the other questions.

Giorgos,

the location of the workshop will be 2 days at Robofold  and 2 days at Cutting Edge. There will be some back and forth traveling probably.

The schedule is in the workshop page, I believe the back and forth traveling from Robofold to Cutting Edge is not covered in the workshop costs. We will take a train for that. I would book a hotel as close as possible to Robofold, close to transport (rail, subway) anyway. The best way to get more info on the Corian tooling you should contact Kevin from Cutting Edge, if you send me an email I will put you in contact with Kevin. You can find my email address on our homepage www.evolute.at

Brouillard,

we will build only one design in the workshop, not one by participant. Together with all the participants we will chose which design is better suited for building, and fits the challenge well. On Monday I will post an example surface than can hopefully serve as inspiration. The seating area itself is quite large (3x3x4m), it is impossible to build more than one in such a short notice. The workshop fee covers all material costs.

In this workshop we will do one object together or one by perticipent ?

yes it s an interresting question, does we need to pay the material ( corian ) ?

Hi florin

Thank you for the information. I would like to know all the details before I register for the workshop.

My aim is to be able to fabricate without depending on the local manufacturers and serve the local designers and architects. The tools are not expensive to buy but a special oven will be needed as it is mentioned on the upper part of this page. It must be an expensive machine to buy since it must contain a whole Corian piece. I just need to know the approximate cost.

I will also need the location of the workshop, how to arrive and from which airport and information about acccomodation.

I apologize for insisting on having all the above information. The reason is that I do not want to be prevented from fabricating anything and forget what I will learn because the local manufacturer will be charging me a fortune for a piece to put in his oven. Or even deny the service.

If you have any other suggestions on how to make all this effort profitable, I will be glad to hear.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Giorgos,

many thanks for your interest. We believe the workshop is a great opportunity to learn about Corian forming and processing. I am sure the experienced team from Cutting Edge will be happy to answer questions about the required tools and techniques. More importantly you will be able to work with the materials yourself, hands-on experience is immensely valuable. The workshop itself will focus on building with Corian in a fast and efficient way, using our software - EvoluteTools for Rhino to generate developable strips. Approximating freeform, organic surfaces with developable strips presents some unique advantages for Corian processing: the ability to produce very cheap moulds for the forming, and speedy construction.

Although the main application would be medium to large scale architecture, the same process can be applied to furniture, art installations, lighting and consumer products. It might help to have a look at our software too, please visit www.evolutetools.com.

After attending the workshop you may find that the tools and materials required to form Corian can be found in your local hardware store.

If you have more questions I will be happy to assist.

It will be possible, after the completion of the workshop, to purchase all the necessary ecquipment to design and fabricate objects like seats or luminaries? I would like to know the approximate overall cost to become independent from the local manufacturers of Corian.

I am a lighting architect in Cyprus searching to expand my activities as a designer.
